-paced world of mobile entertainment, the tools of the trade are constantly evolving. Since its inception in 2022, Red Panda has consistently delivered lighting solutions that strike a delicate balance between high-end performance and the practical needs of a working DJ. While they had an slight hiatus for a few years, they returned under new ownership in 2025 and were recently at the Pro Mobile Conference showcasing the latest products including their updated Bambuu Tubes and the new video DJ booth than was in the last issue (Issue 136).

More importantly, it hits a disruptive price point that simply hasn’t been seen in the UK mobile DJ market before for a fixture with this number of features. It isn’t just another moving head; it’s a workhorse that tackles the specific challenges of venue versatility with a number of mounting options although the mounting bracket is very old school with hex nuts and bracket where we are used to omega brackets now.

I would prefer to see omega clamps added before the final product is launched and have fed this back to the manufacturer even if that adds a small price increase, in my opinion where speed of setup and getting out time is of utmost importance, it’s a small price to pay. Transport logistics are covered with both soft transport bags and dual flight cases available at extra cost, while event-specific aesthetics are sorted by offering both black and white housing options at the same price point.

For many DJs, the ideal moving head is often a compromise between power and portability. The Eclipse Spot 100, however, seems to have cracked the code. The unit is remarkably compact to the point than I thought only one unit had been delivered for review and was surprised to find two units in the box, it’s designed specifically to fit into the increasingly popular totem style setups where fixtures sit atop truss or on DJ booth corner shelves. Its sleek, tapered base and rounded head allow it to look unobtrusive in a sophisticated event, wedding or venue setting, yet it retains a professional pro-gear aesthetic, whilst an small unit, with an punchy powerful LED, it caters to everything from high-energy events nights to pristine, all-white wedding receptions especially when you grab it in the white casing.

While many 100w fixtures can be cumbersome, I compared my ADJ Focus Spot 3z movers (also 100w) side by side and whilst the Focus Spot is around 10 years old its double the size, maybe three times the weight and the release price was four times this new product. The Eclipse Spot 100 is engineered for the solo operator. The chassis is lightweight enough to be easily mounted onto a T-bar or high truss without requiring a second set of hands although as mentioned before the mounting bracket doesn’t fit this use for speed of setup.

This reduced weight doesn't just save your back; it also allows for more flexible mounting options on lighter duty stands that might struggle with traditional, heavier professional heads. This engine provides a punchy, sharp beam with an 18° beam angle, an ideal middle ground that is narrow enough for dramatic mid-air effects in large rooms but wide enough to project clear patterns across a dance floor which of course enhanced with haze if you can ever use it.

What truly sets the Eclipse Spot 100 apart from its competitors is the integration of a secondary light source: a circular ring surrounding the main lens. This ring features in-1 SMD s. Whilst this is a feature than we are seeing more on newer fixtures, it’s not been available on a small compact moving head with a powerful LED combined in one unit which is perfect for mobile DJs. The LED ring is perfect for that eye-candy effect and is great for DJs who perform in venues without haze, the LED ring provides a vibrant halo effect that ensures the fixture looks interesting to the audience even when it isn't projecting a beam and while it is primarily decorative, the ring can add subtle colour fills to the immediate area around the fixture, enhancing the overall mood during slower moments like a first dance or dinner service.

Red Panda has clearly listened to the mobile DJ community when designing the gobo wheels for this unit. The Eclipse Spot 100 features a dual-wheel system that offers a staggering amount of creative variety. The fixture houses two distinct wheels, providing 13 patterns plus an open spot:The static gobo wheel features 7 static patterns plus open. This wheel perfect for sharp, stationary projections like stars or snowflakes which are both included.

The second rotating gobo wheel has 6 rotating patterns, consisting of 4 glass and 2 metal gobos. The inclusion of glass gobos at this price point is a luxury, offering multi-tonal textures that metal gobos simply cannot replicate and not something I have seen on fixtures at this price point. In a move that is a first in this market segment, Red Panda has also included a heart-pattern gobo as standard alongside the already mentioned snowflakes and stars.

Historically, DJs had to order custom glass gobos to project hearts, stars and snowflakes, a costly and time-consuming process, not to mention the stupidly fiddly job to fit them. By including multiple heart patterns on the wheel, Red Panda has made it possible to instantly transform a room into a romantic space with the press of button. I would have liked to have seen both the stars and snowflakes on the rotating gobo is wheel which I would have thought would have ticked most boxes for DJs maybe with a range of moving heads that then just increase in LED power to allow DJs to pick the right moving head for their scenario. The rear of the unit features a high-resolution LCD display with a standard four-button menu system (Menu, Up, Down, Enter), making DMX addressing and mode selection straightforward even in dark environments.

For those not using a dedicated lighting controller, the Sound-to-Light and Auto modes are remarkably sophisticated, utilising the full pan/tilt range of the head without looking erratic.
