-designed speaker systems. Almost everything that comes out of Italy oozes style and just looks simply… beautiful. A beautiful speaker system? That doesn’t sound right, does it?

But the new LITE range from Proel certainly does ‘sound right’! 7722 I’m going to be honest, when (Pro Mobile Editor) Eddie Short approached me to do a review on the LT15As I had absolutely no idea at all what to expect. Proel, to me, wasn’t a ‘big’ name in the PA industry. I have loads of their stage equipment products, such as mic stands and so on, but it wasn’t one of the fi rst names I would have thought of if I were shopping around for a new PA system.

However, aft er a bit of research, I was incredibly excited to learn that PROEL was, up until recently, the parent company of Turbosound Ltd, a very well-known name in the sound-reinforcement industry based just around the corner from me in Sussex. With this knowledge, I had no doubt that PROEL would have ingested a wealth of Turbosound’s experience in speaker design during its ownership of the brand. The last set of speakers I from Turbosound was the impressive Milan series (introduced during PROEL’s ownership) and these went on to be quite popular.

So, what happens when you combine classic Italian styling with many years of good old-fashioned experience in designing and building speakers? The LITE range from Proel off ers a wide selection of diff erent cabinet sizes for a multitude of diff erent applications. You’ll fi nd a selection of active cabinets from 6” all the way up to a dual-15” as well as the LT812A single sub + 2 satellites format. In addition, there’s also a range of passive cabinets and versions available in a white fi nish if you’re that way inclined.

Clearly, there’s something for everyone! It’s been a long while since I last picked up a 15” cabinet made out of plywood, so forgive my immediate lack of excitement when faced with the LT15As which are made out of that very stuff . I was taken back in my mind to the dark beginnings of my own mobile DJ life, recalling memories of carrying around insanely heavy passive JBL TR125s at a heft y 28kg per cabinet. So, I swallowed a couple of cans of spinach and took the LT15As out of the box… and almost immediately launched them into orbit! ‘LITE’ not only by name, but also by nature!

In fact they only actually weigh just 21kg per cabinet – which is pretty impressive for a 15” full range plywood enclosure! This low weight has been achieved by the use of lightweight plywood cabinet construction and well-designed lightweight components, which is good because I never did like Spinach anyway! So, let’s get technical. The LT15A, as the name suggests, is based around a 15” low frequency speaker PROEL LITE LT15A proel LITE lt15a off ering 250w RMS and a 1” compression driver delivering 50w RMS.

Max SPL comes in at 126dB and the whole thing is stored inside a vented, almost wedge-shaped, enclosure. On the front you have a well-fi tted, full face, convex steel grille which I really like and much prefer to the type of cabinet you see with the horn on display. The LT15A is fi nished with a scratch-resistant paint and features handles on the side and a plethora of M10 mounting holes which remind you that the LITE range is not only perfect for portable use but for install too.
