I recently had the opportunity to put the CUBE 1.5 and the flagship CUBE 7 through their paces, and it’s clear that Laserworld is aiming to redefine what ‘mobile’ means for professional laser systems. The CUBE series is built on a plug and play philosophy. In an industry where time is money and setup windows are shrinking, having a high-power laser that doesn’t require a mess of power cables and signal looms is a gamechanger. The product arrives in a compact cardboard box with no internal padding; instead, the laser is housed inside a hard-shell carrying case that fits tightly inside the box.

This makes it incredibly easy to handle and discreet enough for your partner to take in the delivery for you! The hard-shell case is excellent, featuring a shoulder strap and an internal mold that perfectly secures the laser. There is also thoughtful spacing between the unit and its bracket, providing enough room to store the cable and included accessories. Inside the case, you get everything needed to get started 13amp powerCON cable, an interlock adapter and safety key along with a paper copy of the product manual and some Laserworld stickers.

The units themselves are built into a robust, compact housing designed for life on the road. The CUBE 1.5 is a featherweight 3.5 kg, while the high-power CUBE 7 remains highly portable at 6.7 kg. A standout feature is the sealed optical section, which prevents dust and haze fluid from coating the internal mirrors, reducing maintenance. We trialled these units in our own facility and were genuinely surprised by their performance.

Often, battery-powered equipment sacrifices output for longevity, but the CUBE series didn't lose a bit of power when switched to battery mode. The CUBE 7 is an absolute powerhouse with a typical output of 7,000 mW. It packs an incredible punch that can combat the extra light pollution from video walls and high power lighting. As with all Class 4 lasers users should be quite cautious and use lasers correctly making use of the safety features such as inbuilt projection size control, masking plates, single point safety and emergency stop to ensure the beams stay out of the audience.

You should always operate these units with all safety measures in place, specifically the interlock. The CUBE 1.5 utilises a 3,500 mAh battery, while the CUBE 7 steps up to a 6,400 mAh capacity. In real-world testing, this provides roughly four hours of operation at full power. For a standard mobile gig, this means you can position your lasers in areas where running a power cable would be unsightly or a trip hazard - such as behind the DJ booth or framing a truss setup. Despite their compact size and battery power, these are professional Class 4 lasers. a While these lasers support traditional control methods like DMX, Sound-to-Light, and professional ILDA computer control, the true innovation lies in the Cube Laser Control App.

Available for both Android and iOS, this app transforms a smartphone or tablet into a wireless lighting console via Bluetooth. Once connected via Bluetooth, the app allows for instant adjustments from the dance floor or the DJ booth. The product then comes alive with custom text and logos - the app allows you to type out text or draw logos directly on your smartphone screen to be projected instantly. 88 The app also features Image Trace: You can import photos or logos from your phone’s gallery, and the app will attempt to trace them into a lasercompatible format along with Live Performance Tools - a range of pre-set eye candy effects, including tunnels, waves, and grids, which can be modified for speed and size in real-time.

Importantly, the app includes options to position the laser output to ensure the beams are kept away from the audience for safety. For DJs who don’t want to carry a DMX controller, this turn-key app solution offers a level of control that was previously only available to lighting designers with very expensive software. When you first connect the app to a laser, it performs sync between the device and the hardware. This process can take a fair amount of time, as the app essentially caches the patterns and effects onto your phone or tablet device, so you don’t need to load it each time.

While it's tempting to skip this (as I did initially!), go grab a coffee or something and allow it to finish ensures a smoother experience for future use. Once complete, your phone or tablet effectively becomes the control panel for the laser. One of the highlights of the CUBE series is the ability to do RGBW colour mixing. Laserworld has pushed the boat out with high-quality diodes that can produce a very clean, neutral white and vibrant, rich colours.
