My first impression was that the build quality is exactly what you would expect at this price point: a solid and durable mixture of plastic and metal that gives you confidence it can handle the rigours of life on the road. The main carry bag and tripod bag are of great quality.

Getting the light out of the bag was a little awkward, however, as it’s noticeably heavier than it looks, being smaller than many of the gig bars I’ve used in the past. Setting the unit up on its tripod, the light truly comes alive, and its surprisingly compact nature immediately makes sense. This is definitely a light for anyone who wants something that both packs a powerful punch and is highly portable. The use of PowerTwist connectors for power input and output is a fantastic professional touch.

This type of locking connector is far more secure than the standard IEC cable, ensuring your power doesn’t accidentally disconnect mid-gig. The supplied height-adjustable stand is also solid and provides the necessary stability for a unit of this size, though I would prefer to swap it out for a stand with a base and pole. I could not test the DMX, but I’m confident that once this Gigabar FX1 can be controlled by my Wolfmix, it will change everything.
