’d unwrapped them and got things set up in the warehouse, I was quickly impressed and my worries about portability passed. With a sub weighing in at 37kg and the top cabinet coming in at 9.2kg, the DAP Frigga is a manageable system for one person. Although I wouldn’t necessarily recommend manoeuvring the speakers on your own in tortuous venues (we used a trolley and could fit the whole system on one load, but just remember that it’s a big system that suits venues where big sound is needed).

The whole system can come with (as optional extras) well-designed Frigga-branded padded covers and cases. The subs have a slip-case design, which is fitted and has cutouts for the handles. The tops – which consist of a column speaker, a spacer, a pole and cables – come with a bag made from the same padded material as the cases. The bags even have rubber feet for when you stand or lie them on the floor – a nice touch to prevent wear and tear.

So, what are the actual speakers like? The DAP Frigga is an active speaker system and has a sub box consisting of an active dual 12” subwoofer with a built-in amplifier for the column speaker. That’s correct, ladies and gents: four 12” subs when using a pair! This is a column-speaker design, with the subs at the bottom, stacked in the box vertically.

Then you have a nice, sleek spacer column, and the top speaker cabinet consisting of six 4" neodymium mid-range drivers and a 1.5" neodymium compression driver. This is my preferred speaker design and it suits the modern industry we all work in today. On first impression, the speakers look great and are clearly well-built. I had the black speakers for testing, but the DAP Frigga also comes in white – great for the wedding, Christmas and corporate markets.

DAP FRIGGA Speaker setup is easy. Slip the cover off the main sub box and then either stand the column bag upright or sit on the floor to pull out the cables. Then either screw in the 50cm pole or 10cm mount adapter – both use 35mm M20. After screwing in the main pole, simply slip on the column spacer and mount the top box, and you have a fully assembled speaker system!

It literally takes couple of minutes. If you are working on a stage, you might need the 10cm mount adaptor; this means you can leave the spacer in the bag and mount the top cabinet straight onto the sub. I think the design is smart. If you’re like me and you use lighting stands, this makes it very easy to mount a fixture or two: you can still use the main 50cm pole, but leave the spacer in the bag and use 35mm clamps to mount some lighting.

During testing I used the standard setup, including the spacer, but I would love to have played with some different options. The DAP Frigga uses PowerCon in and out, and has the following inputs, outputs and controls all incredibly easy to use from the back of each speaker: • Line 1 input – mic with gain control (combo XLR/jack) • Line 2 input - main line with gain control (combo XLR/jack) • Line 2 output – main line (XLR) • Line 3 Bluetooth 5.0 • Line 4 output – mix out (XLR) Four LEDs indicate the status for power, signal, limit and protect.

There are also separate master output and sub controls. When it came to testing, I first paired my phone with the speaker’s built-in Bluetooth and gave the system a run in our warehouse. How something didn’t rattle off a shelf, I don’t know. This system is serious!

Later, I was able to test out the speakers at a couple of different parties. The first time I was lucky enough to have been working with a fourpiece Jersey Boys tribute act. I set up the DAP Frigga speakers on the floor, with one either side of the stage, using the spacer so the top box was at the correct height.

The act carried out a sound check, and my word, what a noise! The bass a was insane and the top end was a bit muddy at first. But after some tweaking, and working out the best settings, the sound came shining through. The sound the band was making was amazing, so much so that they all had grins from ear to ear.

They knew their gig had just got better because of the speaker system! – dap frigga Bass was pure and warm, whilst top-end was so clear and fresh. The speakers weren’t turned up especially loud, and it was effortless for them to produce an incredible sound. I thought when we turned up the volume we would lose that clarity, but no, it was there no matter what. We did push the volume to see if we could find a limit for a bit of fun and we got there eventually.

But being realistic, there was no way we would be playing at that volume. The SPL (@1m) for the subs is 132 and for the top cabinet 134 – a big sound for a good-sized space. I plugged my DJ system straight into the speakers, and boom! Again, I was greeted with clear, controlled sound.

I had to turn the bass down on the back of the speakers, as it was shaking the whole venue. If this sound check was anything to go by, what a night we had ahead. The room we were in normally holds 200 seated guests, and no matter where you stood, the sound was clear as day. The DAP Frigga system was perfect I for the venue, and now I know it has potential to go bigger; perhaps 300-400 guests would be its happy place.

The night went off without a hitch, the audience in were literally blown away from the performance of the tribute act, and the DAP Frigga speakers did not miss a beat. 72 Even the singers were blown away by the system, so much so I know they got in direct contact with the team at Pro Mobile to find out how to buy a set. The second event I used them for was a corporate event – a DJ-only dinner and dance. I played background music during the meal, which was really clear, no matter where you were in the room, but not too over powering if you were near the speakers.

You could hear every word if you were at the back of the room and I think this is a testament to the array design and having the correct balance between bass and top end when setting it up. So, who is the DAP Frigga for? Well, I’d say it’s aimed at any DJs or bands who need something bigger, particularly for gigs in larger venues. The system would be a great investment for those big venues, or residencies where you have the option to install a system and then just turn up to DJ.

Obviously there will be loads of other uses for these speakers, and once the word gets out I’m sure you’ll see them popping up everywhere. was absolutely gobsmacked when I saw the price of these speakers. Bearing in mind the build quality, modern design, custom bags, connectivity, and sound – not to mention the smiles these speakers help produce – I don’t think any product comes close terms of value for money. So much so that I have bought the DAP Frigga system myself, as we do regular work in larger venues, and I will be leaving them at one such venue over the Christmas period.
