’s previous ‘pack and go’ lighting systems, such as the 4PLAY and the 4BAR, off er portable, quick-to-setup, multi-fi xture solutions, they don’t offer the variation of eff ects boasted by the latest addition to the range – the GigBAR IRC. Where the 4PLAY features four colourful moonfl ower eff ects and the 4BAR uses four par units to create wide washes, the GigBAR IRC features two LED derbies and two LED par cans and – rivalling these previous solutions even further – also makes the most of four built-in strobe lights and a powerful green laser eff ect.
72 This variety really does make the GigBAR IRC a very appealing lighting package. As mobile DJs we’re always seeking new ways to make our setup more portable while retaining quality, power and diversity – and while testing out the GigBAR IRC it became clear to me that it has all three of these elements at the heart of its design. The GigBAR’s bright LED derbies project a total of 42 red, green and blue rotating beams, generated by the units’ six 6-watt colour LEDs, while its LED pars provide wide washes of well-mixed colour lighting, thanks to their six 2.5-watt tri-colour LEDs.

The powerful strobes built into the bar, meanwhile, utilise four 1-watt white LEDs, resulting in powerful chase and slow motion eff ects. These strobe eff ects prove especially helpful when it comes to catering for your younger audiences, or when you feel the dance-fl oor energy needs boosting! Mounted on top of the bar is a laser eff ect that generates moving green dot ‘star-cluster’ patterns that look eff ective projected onto the ceiling above the dance-fl oor.
The laser’s vertical angle can be adjusted to suit your needs, while safety is ensured thanks to the safety lock and electronic remote key, which greatly reduce the risk of children messing with or accidently operating the laser. The GigBAR’s energetic built-in automated and soundactivated programs combine all of these eff ects to create a diverse lightshow that will catch the eyes of your audience. Operational modes can be selected using the 4-button display on the rear of the bar itself.

Aside from Auto and Sound Active mode (the microphone sensitivity for which can be adjusted by a rotary control on the rear of the bar), you can gain more in-depth control over your lightshow using the GigBAR in DMX mode, with a choice of three channel modes: 3, 8 and 19. If connecting to a DMX controller via 3-pin XLR doesn’t suit your needs, you can also operate the GigBAR using the included IRC-6 remote or the wireless footswitch, either alone or as part of a Master/Slave confi guration joining together multiple GigBARs.
The included footswitch is battery-powered and controls the GigBAR via Infrared, making it totally wireless. Erecting the antennas on the GigBAR and the footswitch and then pressing the AUTO pedal will give you control over the fi xture’s Auto programs, with further presses of the AUTO pedal selecting diff erent programs. Using the MUSIC pedal activates Sound Active mode and, once again, Let's you choose between built-in programs.
