The Spot, Roll and Scan – alongside the newly released Inno Pocket Spot Twins – have proven popular with mobile DJs, not just for their portability and low cost but because using an assortment of Pocket fi xtures will In provide a varied and exceptionally bright lightshow. 68 The Inno Pocket Wash continues this trend, giving us everything we’ve come to expect of the Inno Pocket series, but at the same time offering something that – unlike the other fixtures –refreshingly different to everything else on the market.

Most lighting manufacturers produce something akin to the mirror scanners and moving head spots found in the Pocket range. However, with four large 10W quad-colour (RGBW) LEDs mounted onto a small moving head yoke, the Inno Pocket Wash is a compact wash effect with a difference. Once you’ve plugged in the Pocket Wash you can get started in no time, with four built-in shows and Sound Active mode ready to go instantly. The fixture combines its four quad-colour LEDs to generate smoothly-mixed colour washes in various hues, with minimal RGBW shadowing.

Aside from this basic colour mixing, the Pocket Wash also Let's you adjust the balance of RGB colours, alongside the white element of the LED, to create your own preferred shade of white. The main menu on the front control panel gives you the option to make subtle adjustments to the settings for red, green and blue, while the head shines white so you can keep making changes until you get the exact shade you want. The changes are very subtle, so don’t expect to reach the perfect white straight away; just take a little time to adjust the settings and see what results you get. you’re using multiple Inno Pocket Washes, linking them in a master/slave configuration can be a very effective way to do things.

I linked two together and straight away one was assigned as the master unit and the other as the slave. I then simply selected the in-built show of my choice and let the sound-to-light mode do the work. With 540⁰ pan and 180⁰ tilt (8- and 16-bit), the moving yoke on the Pocket Wash moves smoothly and its positioning is precise, spinning and tilting to project light all around the room. One of the built-in shows does however focus the light forward, so if you mount the fixture(s) around your booth at one end of a venue you won’t ‘waste’ light with the head projecting its beam backwards behind you. master/slave mode, you can also set the fixtures to move in sync with each other, or select the pan/tilt inversion setting, which causes the fixtures to mirror each other’s movements.

When using the fixture in this context, it is wise to mount it up high, where it can wash the dance-floor and provide moving beam effects from above. With the included hanging bracket, you can do this safely and securely, while the unit’s display inversion means you can still read the menu and program the light when it’s mounted upside down. Separately sold, but highly recommended, is the additional control option of the ADJ UC IR remote. I found the best thing about the remote was its ability to turn the sound-to-light function on and off, alin lowing the lights to be slowed down. This is perfect for slow dances and other situations where a relaxed atmosphere is needed and you don’t want distracting, fast-moving lights shooting across the room. As all of you wedding DJs will know: a first dance is hardly the same if the lights don’t match the mood! Using the remote you can also select a more appropriate colour, such as white or gold.

It will come as no surprise to you, but as we’ve seen with all of the previous Inno Pocket fixtures, the Inno a Pocket Wash is compact and lightweight, weighing just 2.8kg and measuring 171 x 149 x 214mm (L x W x H). As I’ve said, taking four… six… eight… even ten of these fixtures with you could soon transform your setup and diversify the services you offer; moving, 70 colour changing up-lighting and dance-floor encompassing washes can work wonders for a whole range of events.

What with it being so compact and quick to set up, you could even take the Inno Pocket Wash into consultation meetings with your clients, showing them the various options for up-lighting and colour creation right there and then. There are few, if any, major gripes to be had with the Inno Pocket Wash – I guess it’s what we expected from range that has proved successful since ADJ kicked things off with the Inno Pocket Spot almost two years ago. One thing that is a real shame is that the Pocket Wash cannot be master/slaved with the other products the series.

But, then again, that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with it! Nor does it mean you can’t use the Pocket Wash alongside the other fixtures and operate your lightshow using DMX. The Inno Pocket series is growing all the time, and additions like the Inno Pocket Wash will just keep things moving forward. If you think your setup could benefit from a nifty wash fixture that works incredibly well for effective up-lighting, far-reaching washes and colourful mid-air beam effects, then give the Inno Pocket Wash go.
